Over the years I have tried many different workout programs. I used to be a gym rat. I spent many nights after work at the gym and just wasn't seeing the results I wanted. I took classes at the gym. Don't get me wrong - I loved the classes I took. What I hated was getting there and having to find a spot in the room, find my equipment and hoping that the class wasn't going to be so jam packed like sardines in a can that if I was feeling froggy with my kicks I wouldn't have to worry about kicking someone in the head! A few years ago I decided to ditch the gym membership and the excuses - it's raining, my workout clothes are at home, it's too cold, it's too crowded, etc. If I didn't stop by the gym on my way home from work chances are I wasn't going back. Now I have no excuses - my gym is in my basement.
I have done (and enjoyed) many in home workout programs such as P90X, Turbo Fire and Les Mills PUMP. I have always enjoyed martial arts inspired workouts - I would have loved to have Kenpo X on the P90X schedule a few days a week! I was excited to find out that Les Mills was going to release Combat at the end of 2012. It was going to be a MMA inspired workout and I was beyond stoked! Les Mills BodyPump and Combat are huge hits in the gym (and I didn't want to renew my gym membership). I had a bunch of friends who went on and on about the classes and how much fun they were. I was doing PUMP waiting for Combat to come out and was seeing what all the hype was about. The trainers, the music... it was an awesome program!
When my Combat finally arrived I was so excited to start it. I got Day 1 done and woke up the next day with this awful plague that everyone has right now. I was sick for a week and a half. I got better for 2 days and caught something else. I was sick for another week and a half. I was frustrated and tired and just wanted to feel normal again and get back on my routine. I had done Day 1 and was already hooked! I FINALLY got to start back on January 7th and have completed my first week. I can not even begin to express what a week has done for me. I feel more confident, stronger, more energetic, happy, excited, ambitious, and just an overall sense of well being.
I had always thought that I had found my "soul mate" workouts within P90X and Turbo Fire. Still to this day I love those programs and I will do them again and throw workouts from them in here and there but I now know what it REALLY means to find your soul mate workout. Looking forward to working out everyday, getting bummed when you look at your calendar and find out it is a scheduled rest day. These are the symptoms. I look forward to my next workout and seeing how much progress I have made from the week before.
Les Mills Combat is it for me. It is everything wrapped up in a neat little package right downstairs in my own FREE gym. No fighting for space, no worrying if I am going to kick someone, no classes getting cancelled, no sweat on the machines, no waiting, no monthly payments.... I could go on and on. The trainers say it best - no looking back - look to the future. Your new self is there, you just haven't met you yet. I am excited what the next 53 days bring.
There are so many different programs out there and everyone is so different. Find your soul mate workout and you will never look back.
I am so in love with this program I am going to be starting a Les Mills Combat Challenge Group. If you would like to be part of the group feel free to send me an email at bbcoachkaren@yahoo.com and let me know. You are only 60 days away from a new you!
